Asigra reached out to New Toronto Group to help in developing a strategy for taking their PC based back up services to the burgeoning mobile market space. The company provides secure, cloud based, back up services for PC users and recognized that mobile users will require similar functionality for their smart phones, tablets, and other mobile devices.
New Toronto Group consulted on the various application development options available to Asigra, including HTML5, native apps, and a Flex based solution for developing a mobile solution. Asigra’s data backup solution utilizes sophisticated encryption and compression algorithims and would require deep intergration with the mobile device; we explored the feasibility and pros / cons for the various platforms.
NTG was chosen by Chrysler to help them develop a new auto maintenance application to be used by service technicians. The Witech Diagnostic Application improves how Chrysler automotive service technicians diagnose and fix vehicle problems. The company’s previous application required technicians to page through multiple screens to execute even a simple task. Witech, developed with Flex 3 and Adobe AIR, makes it easier than ever for technicians to navigate graphical information, quickly diagnose problems, identify software updates, and then upload new software to vehicles.
NTG was also tasked by Chrysler to port Witech to the Samsung Galaxy Tablet. As part of the process, NTG initially prototyped building a native Android App but ultimately decided that it was more efficient to reuse the exiting AIR code and to repurpose it for the tablet. The application’s UI was redesigned in consideration of the smaller screen size. It was also multi-touch enabled.
Through its Power-to-Go electricity plan, Direct Energy is offering their customers control over their electricity usage and budget. The program has been a great success for the company, which is the largest competitive retailer of energy and related services in North America. As the Power-to-Go program continues to attract users, Direct Energy wanted to address the needs of customers, and customers to be, seeking information about the program through a mobile device.
Before the recent release of the PlayBook tablet, RIM needed to train a large group of internal employees on how to use Adobe Flex & AIR to develop custom PlayBook applications. Due to NTG’s long standing reputation as highly trusted Flex educators and developers, RIM asked NTG to deliver this education. Over the course of several months, NTG’s instructors trained large groups of RIM partner support employees and RIM product sales consultants on the basics of Flex & AIR development and also provided specific knowledge on how to deploy and publish completed PlayBook applications.
NTG is currently developing 2 new training courses for PlayBook application developers:
1. PlayBook App Dev Using Flex & AIR:
2. PlayBook App Dev Using WebWorks:
Planning for these courses has already begun and NTG hopes to release these 2 new courses to the market in the June timeframe.
Pelmorex (aka “The Weather Network”) is currently designing several new weather apps to be developed over the coming months. HTML5 is important technology for these projects because of its “develop once and deploy across multiple platforms” capabilities. New Toronto Group delivered HTML5 training to the entire Pelmorex application development staff to provide foundation HTML5 knowledge before project work was started.
“Pelmorex (The Weather Network) is pleased with the high level of service and expertise that NTG demonstrated in the delivery of HTML5 training for our development staff.
The instructor was very knowledgeable, approachable and to the point. Our developers were able to gain the foundation HTML5 knowledge required for future projects.”
Zoran Skrba, Web Developer, Pelmorex
