It is surely hard to miss an announcement from Apple Inc. especially when it is as big as unveiling new version of Operating Systems. On Monday June 2, 2014 Apple announced an all-new iOS 8 for iPads and iPhones, and OS X Yosemite, the next version of its desktop operating system for Mac computers.

Apparently the new iOS 8 will come loaded with new features and upgrades like Interactive notifications, QuickType, HealthKit and so on, but what caught my attention the most was the news that- Apple will allow transmission of Approved Virtual Currencies in Apps.

Although Apple had denied and asked apps to remove functionality relating to Bitcoin in the past, this new update seems promising and paving the way for new types of currencies to appear in future on hand-held devices. Apple has not yet provided details on the approved virtual currencies.

As mentioned in Section 11.17 of the App Store Review Guidelines: “Apps may facilitate transmission of approved virtual currencies provided that they do so in compliance with all state and federal laws for the territories in which the app functions.”

Watch out for more updates in days to follow.

Expected list of devices compatible with iOS 8:

iPhone

  • iPhone 5S
  • iPhone 5C
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 4S

iPad

  • iPad Air
  • iPad mini
  • iPad mini with Retina Display
  • iPad with Retina Display
  • iPad 2

iPod touch

  • 5th generation iPod touch
